The second stop in our tour of Italy was Verona. We only stopped there for an afternoon but the city impressed us. Shamefully we had a McDonald’s during our brief visit to Verona, I haven’t forgiven myself for it. Of course Shakespeare springs to mind when you hear Verona and we joined the crowds to see ‘Juliet’s’ balcony.
The main square had market stalls and we ate some much-needed fruit after 3 days of pure carbs. Verona isn’t the biggest of places so we could wander off the square to both the cathedral and balcony. Unfortunately, as you can kinda see in the picture below, scaffolding surrounded the cathedral – the Italian scaffolding curse strikes again!
On the way out of the city you are reminded of Shakespeare’s legacy and get to say a goodbye to the great man himself. Verona is well worth a visit if you’re in the area, it impressed me more than some of the more well-known cities. More on that to come in the next post – Milano!
